These days things seem to be improving between the two. The second Gorou Miyazaki film is scheduled for release in 2011 or 2012.

Kiki is 13, she's not a child, she's an adolescent, thus the term is ephebophilia.
Ephebophilia isn't really a mental illness like pedophilia per se. A 13 year old girl is sexually mature, she's past puberty. It's quite natural for adult men to be attracted to her, as for most of human history, getting per pregnant would be a pretty good idea. If you look at the age of consent in most of the world, it ranges from 14-16, and occasionally goes as low as 13 and as high as 18.
In modern times, however, it's certainly NOT a good idea. Children grow up differently, live in a different world, develop differently. It's fine to be attracted to 13 year old girls, that's perfectly normal. It's just not fine to actually have SEX with 13 year old girls.
Well, if this does do badly, it won't be completely Goro Miyazaki's fault. While Goro's still directing, the one doing the planning and the screenwriting will be Hayao himself.
I will give you that the way that trailer ended was awkward as hell.
