[GEEK MODE ON] most modern grand pianos have a larger prop stick (with which to hold up the lid, as shown here) and also a smaller stick, used when you don't want too much volume (such as when accompanying a quiet singer or softer instrument). Each stick has its own socket underneath the lid for proper and balance, but it is a common error among inexperienced stagehands to put the larger stick in the wrong hole, as it is in fact the case here. The proper hole is further in; when used, the lid and the stick will form more of a right angle and a more secure support. [GEEK MODE OFF]
