Yeah, Faris was/is my blue mage, too. Actually, 'cept for Butz (a warrior? thief?), this was/is my setup (haven't gotten far enough for the second set).

Butz looks like a Dancer/Bard (whatever they called in that game), Galuf Monk, Faris Blue Mage, Lenna White Mage.
Till now that I´m starting to play FF5 I´ve seen 5 persons that put the same jobs (including me) as following:
Bartz-Knight Lenna-WMage Galuf-Monk Faris-BMage
Explanation? Well, maybe because as Bartz is the main hero we think of him as the Knight; then we see a weak but kind-hearted character in Lenna, so White Mage sounds good; so as Galuf was unarmed when we first used him, a job being amonk seems pretty good he kicks ASSES!; but now my main question: Why the hell do we choose Faris as a Blue Mage?

Maybe it's sort of pirate-y? The actual answer is just that Blue Magery is awesome, and the others have more established Job aptitudes (though I'd more likely place Buartz as a Thief).
Faris is mainly known stat wise for her speed, which is only second to Krile's and 3rd/2nd in physical stats (Behind Bartz and Galuf but ahead of the other girls). Bartz and Galuf are mainly known for their Str and Stamina stats while Lenna's best known for her magic (though I think Krile is just as good at magic)
