no it does spell Mahiro chan, if you haven't noticed Kaede and Mihari seem to be shipping the two (see the constant play dates, the fact the two are so close and then the whole matching scarfs deal. matching clothes is a very couple thing to do in japan.) and kaede's day dream about Momiji calling Mahiro with a love heart in the speechbubble further confirms my theory. then again Momiji herself and Mahiro (though she would deny it) are attracted to each other. and above all that the mangaka nekotofu is a prolific yuri mangaka.

The problem is not whether or not the line says "Mahiro-chan", but instead it's about whether or not the character saying the line is Mihari or Momiji. oyama_mihari was used instead of hozuki_momiji pre-translation, someone pointed out the tagging error post-translation, and now it's corrected.

That said, I really do wonder how this ship will turn out in the end. I guess Mahiro will just completely accept being a girl one day.

It'd be kind of hard to have the main character go back to being a mid-twenties man and still have a relationship with a middle school girl, and we've kind of deliberately been kept from seeing the male form of Mahiro so that we wouldn't think about Mahiro actually as a male all that much. Likewise, it's pretty obvious that Mahiro is getting used to being a girl and all these relationships are based upon being a younger girl that would necessarily break if Mahiro aged up and was a different gender. There's no real way narratively for this to end any other way than embracing the gender-bending.

What if this is a reverse reverse genji plan? With having both of them go into adulthood together to be proper brides for each other?
