Probably for the same reason people say that their dogs start to look like them after a while. Taking her personality, voice and NEXT design into account this is an idealized, but not-unreasonable assumption of what she might look like.
Besides, it's a popular subversion nowadays to have the petite (or at least less masculine) character showing up in the big robot.
