They can make Zelda a deuteragonist to Link. Depending on the story and gameplay, of course. That may end up badly.
It won't work. LoZ is supposed to be an epic hero's journey to save the land and it's peoples. The metaphorical representation of the land and it's peoples is the princess. What is the point to the hero if the princess (the land and it's people) can take care of themselves?
Link may as well stay home and herd goats or fish or whatever it is he's doing when he isn't saving the world.

Yeah and that happened. in Breath of the wild. BotW2 is dealing with the world and it's people recovering from the century long calamity they survived under. What better way to show the world and it's people recovering then Zelda, as you put it, the representation of such, being a playable heroine?

So what's Link supposed to do while she's running around? Because he doesn't have her scientific aptitude. And he doesn't have her royal or spiritual authority. He's just a guy with a sword.
Mind you, I don't mind getting rid of Link. Just stop beating around the bush and make it official. That the world doesn't need him anymore.
Since when can't Link just go on an adventure of his own for fun? The world may not need him, but that doesn't mean he can't be off doing his own things just to help out or have fun, either.
I also thought BotW 2 was supposed to compensate for the story-shortcomings of the first game. Having interchangeable protagonists will undermine that.

How do you know that? Have you time traveled and played the game in the future? Maybe we should all just wait and actually see the game before we start making assumptions about how good the game and its story are going to be.

There are still plenty of monsters in Hyrule, and who's to say link's not going to be playable. they're duologists, aren't they?
Guys,Link would obviously want to Help Zelda. You think he would just GG out while she is fighting? I for one think this would be a nice Opportunity for Coop and such.

Why? She doesn't need his help. He should take it easy, go live on a farm.
