Seems like 90s anime but sadly the writer needed just 1 more panel for the protagonist to become corrupted by the love interest's power and set up the 4 panels of Season 2.

From the looks of it, the attempt failed. Because there needs to be one more panel to show the villain becoming the love interest again. And dying.
