Not really. General Liu died in 1929, and the accident actually happened to him in 1919, back to when he was almost able to put this gun into production. Several months after his unfortunate stroke and retirement in summer 1919 (this was believed to be caused by the accident that the vessel with the machinery sank on its way to China, and the stroke made him paralyzed), the machines he ordered from America finally reached Shanghai, but they were left behind for 2 years and then were sent to Gongxian Arsenal to produce Yuannian rifle (a modified model of Mauser G98). It must be extremely depressive for General Liu to observe the whole process of how his magnificent design went wasted...
