To say the subreddit is currently a firestorm would be putting it mildly.

For the sake of comparison, Aloe got suspended for "only" 2 weeks for inadvertently doxxing herself (although she was let go because of the ensuing shitstorm, her inability to handle it, and the fact that she caused it by doxxing herself)

From how Cover reacted, they seemed to really, really want to hold onto Aloe considering her talent and how much they invested in her already. I have no reason to doubt that she decided to bow out, considering that Cover updated their anti-harassment policy within days of her leaving.

Apparently their anti-harassment policy only applies to people who aren't the CCP though.

And weirdly enough a few days ago I did get this feeling of, "Things are going pretty well with Hololive ... too well almost."

She wasn't let go, she quit, because people were harrassing her and people she knew IRL. It's not reasonable at all to expect a person to stand strong under that kind of attention, especially when your anonymity has been compromised. Nor is it fair to say she caused it, she didn't do anything to justify what she got from a group of people who spend their free time trying to harm vtubers and idols, and are proud of it.

It's a testament to the assumption that Japanese media or industry is immune to foreign influence is complete bunk. The time when something from Japan being isolated and exotic is coming to if not already at an end. Everything you may loath about Western media is finding it's way into the East.

Lets be real, this is far from the first time a piece of media has come under foreign scrutiny. There are a lot of times anti-japanese sentiment factors into decisions to cancel anime or sideline a contentious mangaka.

You act like that’s hard to do. Remember that it is not to force yourself to think that red is blue or that 2+2 is always 5, but instead to convince those around you of the facts.

What is red that comes out, beneath the skin it is the color blue. Perhaps even green. But who really knows.

You’d be surprise. It’s not like it hasn’t been done before and very recently too. Don’t forget that if the Nazis really did love their country so much, they wouldn’t have fled when the Russians and the U.S came knocking on the door the moment everything went south.

Indeed, and it can get more ridiculous than that. To paraphrase something a relative said to me, "Why are you disagreeing with the CCP? You're Chinese!"

Some of them outright think that to be a proper Chinese you have to be in support of the CCP, and that it is synonymous with China itself.

Don't get me wrong, but I don't see how that is any different from the usual political drival bullshit that is in the U.S(or any other country really) as well. With the two parties always at each others throat, screaming at each other and yelling the other is unAmerican or considered the enemy/unpatriotic because of differing ideology or even just because they're Liberals/Conservatives/Democrats/Republicans. Of course that doesn't make it any less idiotic, yeah.

Not saying I support the CCP in anyway, but glass house.

Coco brings Cover the most money out of all their vtubvers. If they fire Coco over this, they will literally lose everyone except the toxic obsessives.
Also 0.2% of viewership (china) vs 7% of viewership (Taiwan) I think they's not lose much revenue if they dropped west Taiwan and relocated their 6 cn talents to other markets. like Indonesia.

Only one allowed doesn't mean the people truly only think in one-pattern. Tons of people in China and North Korea would love to be able to have free speech if it doesn't come with heavy, heavy consequences.

I know Chinese mainlanders who indeed disagree with many/all things CCP and their brainwashed drones have done and are still doing(Hong Kong, Xinjiang, Tiananmen square, Belt and Road, covid coverups, etc, and yes even on r/Hololive you can see some mainlanders came to apologize and say they are not for this decision), but they can't say it openly because again, heavy consequences.

But alas, 2020 is the year where everything has to be an us VS them issue.

I hope you know that the CCP isn’t the only political party in China however they are the current most powerful and influential. The problem with the other political party is that while they exist, they do not have the influence or power of that of the CCP, not even a small amount as evident by despite its weakening at a point, the CCP was still able to gain back full control. It is the equivalent of the “other” party that exist in America yet has no power or say or winning in anyway.

And because the CCP has so much influence and power, it makes it seem as if it is the only option for the people and, as I said before, the Chinese people are one of the most laid back and uncaring people in the world especially when it comes to politics. It has always been like that since the time of ancients. Nobody cares about who is in charge, unless it starts to affect them extremely negatively, like extreme famine or tax to the point of insanity.

The CCP can declare themselves as supreme ruler and establish Mr.Xi as the new divine Emperor of the heaven and earth and most of them would not, and will not care, as long as nothing changes the lifestyle of the people and doesn’t start a genocidal campaign IN MAINLAND. Notice I said in mainland, that means that even if he does start genociding those of in Hong Kong or Taiwain, there would not be a single care until it somehow affects the mainland or the people personally and immediately.

The chinese doesn’t give a shit about Taiwain because it doesn’t affect them. They don’t care if westerners or other people outside of the nation is hurt, infact they might even see it as a good thing cause it will be beneficial to themselves since more foreigners harm means less actual Chinese harm.

Now with Hololive moments going full anti-coco, and privatizing all their videos, while calling for harsher punishment for Coco.

Between this, Armenia-Azerbaijan border conflicts, Boogie pulling a gun on someone, and Office365 shitting itself, the past 2 days have been an absolute nightmare.

From my experience living in China, I can safely say all other parties in mainland China are just CCP in disguise, so not at all like third parties in the states. Most students in Chinese education system are asked to join Communist Youth League by highschool and become party members by college. They have no way to join other parties anyway. There is no voting in China as well so while third party in U.S. can still win an election of a city council or town mayor, the minor parties in China are really just for show.

Yeah, it's pretty sad. To think that all the suffering and sacrifice during Tiananmen and all the revolts that was attempted, all of it amounting to almost nothing is one of the most saddest things to see.

Maybe that is why so many Chinese people just don't care anymore. No matter what anyone tries or do, it always ends in failure in someway. History has never been kind to us. There is hardly ever any moments when the Chinese people can truly say or feel that they "won" which is why it sucks.

Maybe that's also why no one wants any new changes and just accepts everything for how it is, since although the CCP is in full control they are also with enough power to be able to influence and actually move ahead in a direction that doesn't end in absolute failure and utter destruction for the population itself, for now at the very least. In many Chinese people's eyes, what the CCP is doing, is technically "winning", although even a blind man can confidently tell you it is moving the opposite direction in every conceivable way.

It is quite depressing. I remember a saying from a protester during Tiananmen, after he was arrested and attempted kill himself by smashing his head on to a wall. While I can't remember the entirety of his quotes, he screamed that he was ashamed to be born Chinese. Hearing him say that, it hurts because he wasn't wrong when he spoke of how the Chinese people are one of the most pathetic and weak willed groups in the entire world. Flaunting our cultures and histories when all in all, if you look at it, it has been nothing but failures after failures.

And much of it only comes from ourselves, as much as we try to blame foreigners and Europeans. It is just...sad.

    Steak said:

Please don't get me wrong. I am not in anyway saying what is happening with the CCP is any better or any of that, just that in a way, it is more of a worldly thing that tend to occur in all nations and singling it out for the Chinese and calling it ridiculous isn't...well...that tasteful. It's still a terrible thing to see, yes. However, at the same time trying to take the high grounds doesn't really do to help with anything in the matter.

I suppose as an update, hololive moments has started flagging hololive content including material not translated/edited by them. Given Youtube's arbitrary and flagger-friendly copyright rules, this could lead to a lot of damage.

    I'll never understand this logic.

I can see why a person would use their platform to speak for and support political beliefs. I think China's idea of communism is totalitarian and menacing, and Hololive Moment's support of it wrong, but I won't deny a person acting honestly even if I don't agree with them. At least then, we know what we each stand for and can work around our differences.

But using one's media platform to outright declare an attack against someone, to sabotage others, extort innocents, or censor supporters is simply warlike. Trying to hold the language barrier hostage to gain an advantage over people is barbaric.

I seriously hope they pay for that. Absolutely uncalled for.

You, unfortunately, just answered yourself. Shitheads do these things because they know they will never have to pay for it. Because they can get away with it, they do such bullshit. It is the same as you see from all the fucktard trolls and assholes that take pleasure in harassing and doxxing well known people just for the sick satisfaction of superiority in causing harm to others.

To them, the worthless stains of humanity, they see as their “contribution”. It’s absolutely pathetic and disgusting.

What makes me laugh is that they’re supporting the same government that makes it illegal to access said site and trying to appease the same regime that they just went under to do said things so they really gain nothing and, although they probably won’t, will get just themselves in trouble if they are ever to be caught by both sides. Ironic isn’t it?

I’m not really a fan of Vtubers or whatever, but it is just awful to see shit like this happen and so often. Be it real or fake, man or woman(or other) I really do hope the company double down on their effort to make sure this stuff won’t happen again and ensure the safety of their employees above all else.
