I clicked on the Source link, but it seems like this picture was taken down. Who was the pixiv person that uploaded this image (and I don't mean geister)?
abcadeff said: from what I understand, artists do this all the time. nothing to see here.
Artists do it for *practice*, and even then, drawing from life is preferred. Sometimes they might also take their own photographs for later reference. But copying someone else's photos covertly will get you in trouble.
lay it over another the pillows are all the same but the character is drawn very diferent here. i have seen a lot of stuff which is traced but the girl is only referenced. if there weren't the pillows no one would even recognize it. taking reffs is part of an artists work. nothing to be ashamed about. so no tracing at all volks.
The asahi.com link LaC had posted no longer works. I searched around and was able to find a portion of the article.
Seinosuke Nakajima, a regular panelist on a TV antiques appraisal show, believes forgeries have their rightful place. In his book "Kotto Horidashi Jinsei" (My life as an antiques finder) published by The Asahi Shimbun in 2007, Nakajima notes: "Society needs something like a little 'thickening' to get a boost. ... Forgivable forgeries spice up society in a good way." Professional antiques dealers swallow their anger and blame their own lapses when they realize...
Artists use references for poses all the time. Fucking Leonardo Da Vinci had models pose for reference. This is only an issue if it can be shown that it was literally traced. You can't possibly tell if it was traced based upon that tiny original picture. We'd have to see a much more thorough comparison.
Using images as reference is not plagiarism. Even if it "traced" there's still a whole bunch of shit you still have to get right. Drawing from life is good because it's good practice to see 3d and transmit to 2d. The only trouble I can see anyone getting into because of using a 2d image would be taking pictures of random people in the first place.
It's not even traced. It's so obvious that it isn't. Look at the bra, panties, even the rib cage are all in different locations. Also, not sure but it seems that Sakuya is bent a tad bit more (turning to the right).
Just sayin'. Still love it regardless of if it was traced or not. (Which it isn't >__>)

This 'trace' thing is a real argument? Coming from fap seekers on a booru sight? That's like saying "I'm a mechanic because I am in a garage." Look people, I, as an artist, know what he did. Its called reference meterial. Like when you write a paper about a subject. You read the sources, divine an extraction of the facts, and re-iterate it in your own words. Nothing different here. A blatant 'trace' as you try to accuse him of doing, is a literal trace, ergo plagiarism. Drawing over image = exact.
This is a by sight drawing and an EXTREMELY common event in artist reproductions. All artists do this. Those with skill do it more. This man has skill and an eye for portraying the 3d world in 2d. The Leonardo Da Vinci example he had subjects sit still for weeks to finish the painting. Landscapes will look blurry because it changes over time and the artists have to hurriedly produce the image. Especially in post modernism. In short, Uneducated opinions =/= fact
Guys, I think you're missing the point here: the old guy is obviously butthurt for some reason since he's using BIG LETTERS TO SHOW HOW MUCH BUTTHURT HE ACTUALLY IS.
