The thumbs are generated directly from the full-sized image. It may just look that way simply because the thumb is smaller (thus some detail is lost).

Did you look at H pics in the 90's? Now THOSE were some pretty shitty decensors. In comparison, this isn't bad at all. It doesn't even really jump out at me that there's anything off, if I don't lean in.

You really need to get it through your head that "something else was worse" does not, in any way, mean "this is okay".
