Vhs tapes are actually extremely important for storing large amount of data with minimal risk of deterioration over time. Well, a version of the VHS is used in such a manner at least.
Sure, it is super slow to read said data. But the amount stored is extremely large, the method is stable so long as it is kept in large environment, and lot of the negatives that other storage mediums have aren't present in this special version of VHS.
In short, it is unlikely that we will stop using VHS, at least, not until we can start storing important/vital backup data in something even more useful.
