    Once a Nidorino finds his own Moonstone he becomes Nidoking! Just like his female counterpart, he'll set out to form his own settlement with a Nidoqueen or human at his side. They're warrior kings and want nothing more than to train and educate new generations with their partners

    only the base evolution, nidoran female, can breed at all. im not sure why gamefreak allowed that, given what that implies towards the nidoran species as a whole.

    If you've played Pokemon Colosseum, recall the old man with the Treeko in the Pokemon Center, and how he explains that the Treeko is actually older than he is. Evolutionary progress is not necessarily an indication of age in a Pokemon, or even maturity for that matter. Merely their bodies altering to accommodate greater power.
    As for why only the first stage can breed, it might have to do with how the later stages more closely resemble rhinos than the first stages do, a species that has been found to have difficulty breeding in captivity because the females just shut down, or something. I don't remember all the details, I learned this stuff years and years ago and haven't had to use it since until just now, lol
