    Mike Goutokuji is a manekineko from Goutoku Temple, but since she’s calico instead of white like they’re supposed to be, she was ostracized by the others. She tried dyeing her fur before but now she’s rebellious against the very idea of being a manekineko. This means her power is incomplete: she can invite money or customers but never both at once.

    Takane Yamashiro is a yamawaro (mountain kappa), who have a huge rivalry with the kappa but are almost exactly the same. They are specialized for life in the forest though. While kappa are better at manufacturing, yamawaro are better at finance, so ideally they would work together. Kappa call yamawaro monkeys while yamawaro call kappa frogs (amphibians). Takane is kinda like the leader of the yamawaro, but it seems to be an informal position.

    Sannyo
    Komakusa
    is a mountain courtesan(?) who runs a popular gambling den on youkai mountain. She has the power to manipulate emotions with her tobacco smoke, but the example given is that she uses it to calm her customers down before they ruin themselves with gambling. It’s a high-class joint and people call her by the friendly nickname of Dayuu.

    Gotouku temple?.. That’s means that there’s another temple aside of the one Byakuren has?.. I wonder what type of stuff could that temple have exactly?...

    Gensokyo existed for a while before Byakuren's group showed up, it's only fair to assume there was already at least one temple present.

    Goutoku-ji is a real temple in Setagaya, Tokyo. It's not in Gensokyo.

    No, I know who. I don't remember it being stated anywhere that she was a new Gensokyo arrival. As far as I've ever known she was a new Myouren Temple member, not specifically someone who had been living in the outside world until recently.

    Well, from what i do learn about her, is that her species (Yamabikos) were kinda getting extinct thanks to the humans knowing that the echos were being "stronger" by any sort of creature, but rather is due to the location or something like that, which would make them kinda got in gensokyo just to not dissapear forever... i think that Kyouko was also one of the yamabiko who entered gensokyo just to not ended up forgotten in the outside world.

    This is due to the rumor that the truth behind the voices of the yamabiko are just the reflections of sound starting to spread among the humans of the village, so the number of humans who shout to them in the mountains has decreased. With many yamabiko losing their purpose in life, it seems they naturally became extinct.

    Thinking she had no other purpose in this world, she entered the priesthood. She is now apparently training at the Myouren Temple.

    This sounds pretty clear to me that she had been living on youkai mountain, not in the outside world. She joined the temple because the Gensokyo humans were losing faith in Yamabiko.

    Oh, i guess that makes senses... it's also somewhat sad that. even in gensokyo, people are starting to forget about youkais too... which the whole point of gensokyo is to be a paradise for the youkai to stay on...
