Intrepid with her modified bridge and angled flight deck, completed during refits in 1953 and 1957 respectively.
Helicopter is a Kaman UH-2A/B Seasprite. It carries the markings of HC-2, which served on Intrepid during her three Vietnam deployments between 1966 and 1969.
Prop plane is a Douglas A-1H Skyraider, painted with the markings of Attack Squadron 176 (VA-176) “Thunderbolts”. This squadron served on Intrepid in 1966. On October 9, 1966, a member of this squadron (Lieutenant (j.g). William T. Patton) was credited with shooting down a MiG-17s. This would be the first and only shoot down of an enemy jet by a propeller driven plane during the Vietnam War.
Jet is a Douglas A-4B Skyhawk from Attack Squadron 15 (VA-15) “Valions”. This squadron also served on Intrepid in 1966. This aircraft carries several symbols denoting bombing raids carried out on North Vietnamese targets.
