I will refrain from speaking of design since this comment was based on logic (Though the logic of the Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator's logic itself doesn't use much logic).

Well let me restate this, it's rendered pointless unless the user has something else in use (Or it was recharging) that isn't viewable, like say it heals the user or supplies ammunition. But a better question, who is the user? Gordon usually has his suit at this point.

He usually gets his suit by the second chapter. This can imply the gloves are removable or he's using a different suit, and older model, maybe a Powered Combat Vest, or a suit designed by Nitori?
