Well, one can't survive only on berries. And sometimes berries and flowers can be pokemon, too...
What a weird world to live in...
Wanna know what is weirder about Pokemon world? ALL creatures AND inorganics there can be contained with Pokeballs. But not humans (because ethics)? Imagine how cost-effective it is to say, fill a plane with Pokeballs containing humans and fly somewhere. Or heck, put a tanker ship (which is the size of a Wailord) in pokeball and carry it while on same plane. Or put a tanker ship inside a pokeball, put that inside ANOTHER tanker ship and repeat until you carry supermassive recursive object.
But no, people still stuck on 'how can people eat these cute creatures' when IRL there's people eating puppies and dolphins.

What I wonder is if you can eat something OTHER than pokemon in that world. You can't even go vegan is your plants are alive, walking around and trying to communicate with you.
But on a tangent similar to your rant, how would it be living in a pokeball and, if it is confortable, why aren't people hiding inside them yet?

Well there's always cloned meat. I mean, if they can restore injuries then they fully know how to regrow tissues, right? Not to mention they can already revive fossils and genetic-engineer pokemons like Genesect and Mewtwo, it shouldn't be that hard making a chimera DNA from a mix of Tauros and Spoink to create the ultimate 'meat'.
As for 'living' in the pokeball, I'd believe it's not exactly 'living' but put in state similar to stasis. We still don't know how Pokeballs work, did it digitize your whole physical body into data (perpetually keep you in mid-warp state, if we're comparing it to Star Trek) and saves a copy of your personality in different machine before releasing that data in the warp-out body, or does it keep your consciousness separate from your body so you can still be aware of things happening outside, and projected a digital space for your mind to reside until you're 'called out'? Again, this might be related to ethics or govermental rules-kidnapping is EASY with modded pokeball, and if that Ninetales/Gengar episodes could tell you, one can probably achive immortality by living inside pokeball.
