Alright, this is not something i'm absolutely sure about so don't think my comment is truth. From what i understand, in a large part of jp fanbase, golshi just disappears one day and reappears in a child form decades later because of how blood relatives between race horses are. There's actual theories that justify her personality as a cover up and other kinds of crap that got bigger over time.
In short, old McQueen realizes the small child in front of her is the same friend that disappeared long time ago.
also kudos to the artist for giving me back Ranma 1/2 and inuyasha vibes i haven't had in years.
Golshi also sometimes get drawn with brown hair (with white stripe) in her "fanon" younger form. This is because the real life horse was also brown (with white blaze) when he was young.

Some others involve strange flashbacks to a past life with an elderly McQueen (resembling the Mejiro Family Matriarch) and a toddler/child Golshi.
