It's legit. Kaiyodo later released a much better version (far better sculpt, more versatile joints, ect) which is more readily avalible today. I bought this same figure back when the movies first came out on LD...

On a related note: Wikipedia says the figure is actually from William's personal stash, which is pleasantly surprising and amusing to me since I wouldn't have pegged him as an Eva fan.
