Context: During one of her collab stream, Bae accidentally leave her microphone unmuted while she's receiving phone calls from her mother in Chinese, which prompted her to quickly end the stream in panic.
A few days later, Bae later addressed to this incident and admitting that she's a Chinese diaspora. Citing that the reason why she didn't include Chinese into her spoken language during her debut is because she were worried about her family's privacy, and she seems to know that anything Chinese-related is a taboo for some Hololive fans after the Bilibili incident. So she decided to come out and clear the rumors about her.

Honestly i wouldn't blame her at all after all that happen. Even know what only a portion on said land still unreasonable hate them, while the vast mayority still likes them and support them as well. Even in Taiwan still supports them even more. Plus much of the hololive fans who has any relative or decendency from there doesn't care about the bs from their home country, even a chinese clipper living in UK was targeted by haters as well for the same reason.

Disgusting scum will use every possible excuse to target people, huh?

Problem is the CCP has spies everywhere. That is a fact. A horrible, extremely uncomfortable fact. You might even be dating a spy. You might even be *married* to a spy. What's more, you got a Chinese district in your country? Is that district part of your country...or is it part of China? Officially, they're your citizens, but...unofficially? And a practical reality?
30 years ago, China didn't have the ability to launch nukes at every corner of the world...until a few years later when they suddenly did. And they didn't develop that technology domestically. Now, because they can threaten to nuke anyone, no one is in a position to push back against them if they decide to carry out an invasion. All because someone let a few of them into the United States.
Don't forget; the largest mobilization ever carried out by a nation's people was around 20%. That would be the Mongolian Hordes, and they went on to wipe out 10% of the human race. 100,000 men on horseback killing tens of millions. It doesn't take very many people to reap alot of destruction.

There's over a million of people of full or partial Chinese descent in just the US alone. Anyone who hates her just for that might as well start burning crosses while wearing white sheets.

You're absolutely right, but the depressing combination of Hololive stalkers who would actually care about such a thing + underlying current of xenophobia makes for incidents like what's happened in the past just specifically with Hololive something they have to unfortunately worry about and take into account. Really unfortunate how paranoid the vtubers have to be, especially when it's justified.
Did some basic maths and thought of something. Her version of Chinese that she speaks is Cantonese, the variant spoken mainly in SE China. If we presume Hakos is somewhere in her early-to-mid 20's and was born to mama and papa rat after they settled down in their new home in Australia, I think we can safely assume one major detail of her family.
Now think; What happened in SE China in the late-90's that would have both allowed and warranted her parents to pull a GTFO maneuver and relocate themselves to Australia? The Handover of Hong Kong to the PRC.
I have a strong suspicion that Mama and Papa rat are Hong Kong ex-pats.
