Wouldn't the letter still be readable even after it was shot?

I presume it's still largely readable, although having one's love letter shot with a sniper rifle is sure to scare the tar out of two teenagers.

not with bullet drop and wind velocity, unless the scope moved due to the recoil

last time i checked bullets leave a bullet-sized hole in paper.
It's not like it will blow everything it passes sky high.

Paper and living tissue behave rather differently. More importantly, deforming ammunition and/or velocities in excess of mach 2 cause firearms to produce very unpleasant injuries.
