Not called denial when it's the truth. I have never seen a otaku as ugly as those stereotyped in manga, anime and pictures/hentai or parodies in real life. Myself, I'm a otaku, i have several friends who are otaku, but none of them are morbidly obese, butt ugly or socially retarded.

Personally, I find the inclusion of such ugly guys to be interesting, as it creates an intense antithesis between his ugliness and her beauty. As an experiment, try starting up a fighting game and having a hot girl vs hot girl match, and then have a hot girl vs old man match. I find that in the second case, I'm able to appreciate the beauty of the girl more.
