Youmu's gonna need to call in a favor with Sakuya before Yuyuko wakes up

This was all just as planned by Yuyuko.

A mini-nuke. That's exactly what we need in Gensokyo.

    LETS DO MATHS
Youmu is running at what is roughly 7.5million metres/second. If we assume she weighs the same as the average human girl, which is about 60kg, that's 30 * 7,5000,000^2 joules of kinetic energy. I don't know enough about military/nuclear warfare, but that seems reasonable enough to be on the level of a mini-nuke.

    3.375x10^15 J by my calculator.

One megaton of TNT equivalent is 4.814x10^15 J.

The Hiroshima bomb, for the sake of comparison, weighed in at 62.76x10^12 J, or 15 kilotonnes TNT equivalent.

So yeah, Little Myon is a pretty decent nuke.

Forgot about Utsuho didn't we? She is a walking Nuke. Anyway..yeah basically going that fast. Good luck trying to stop on a dine without digging a whole 50 miles deep. Though may get lucky and find some gold or something...maybe oil. Everyone likes Oil.

    Thought here:
Aya writes that Youmu couldn't turn because she had been traveling in a straight line the whole time. Youmu wasn't going in a straight line though, she was running along an elliptical track. So she was more or less turning at a constant rate. She said in a previous panel that the spellcard propels her forward through a single motion. After the single motion accelerates her, she wouldn't be able to change vectors unless the spellcard was either applying constant acceleration or anchoring her to a single reference point around which she would orbit. Maybe the spell is capable of warping space so from Youmu's point of reference, the ellipse becomes a continuous straight line, whereby a single motion would give the relative appearance of changing vectors without the application of additional acceleration. Either way, Yuyuko picked a bad spot to be. That and, you know, the whole obliterating Hakugyokuro thing that followed.

Agreed 100%. My 2 favorites (besides these ones, happy to know what a yojana is) are the one where Cirno calculates pie, and where she does math in base 9. I also like it when people talk about gun mechanics and whether the artist illustrated them correctly or not.

huh? So Youmu doesn't remember that she can't turn around curves very well until she saw Yuyuko collapse? But isn't the oval, well, oval? Curved?

I would have said that it's more like moving constantly in the same direction with the same curve angle at high speeds while somehow maintaining balance will be just as fine as moving in a straight line at those same speeds unless a sudden (attempted) shift in direction occurs. Except that she's running in an oval and not a circle which requires repeatedly shifting from turning and running straight.

This makes no sense to me either.

How did you get 3.375x10^15 J as an answer? The formula is .5M x V^2. It seem you forgot the .5 in the equation.

I don't know enough about military/nuclear warfare, but that seems reasonable enough to be on the level of a mini-nuke.

In any case, classical Newtonian mechanics break down as we reach significant fractions of lightspeed. Assuming she successfully executes the technique, she would be going at ~26% of c, giving her a Lorentz factor of 1.0356. The formula for relativistic bodies can be summarized as Mc^2 multiplied by the Lorentz factor minus 1. In this case it is
    .0356.

    E=(60kg)(.0356)(78,000,000m/s)^2

    The result is 1.3*10^16 J.

Going back to conveying the actual force in real world terms, the output force would be equal to 3.1 megatons of TNT, larger than any nuclear warhead currently fielded by any of the major powers. So, no not a small warhead. It's like the Sixties nukes, back when you could chuck the bomb into a B-52 cargo hold rather than a Minuteman missile. Big bombs don't miss when you can fry everything in the radius of several miles.

This raises a few questions in itself such as:

How can she exert enough force on the earth to achieve those speeds? Wouldn't the ground crack underneath her feet or something?

How come Youmu doesn't fly off into space at those speeds?
She certainly reached escape velocity going at .26c. What's keeping her here?

    AbatedDust said:

So you're implying Youmu has a little "gap hax" keeping her on the plane of the Earth. But if she could do that, well...

On another note, Youmu is scary strong. To be able to achieve such speeds means that she can leg-lift a skyscraper. Game mechanics blah blah.

I am not at all convinced that she's actually pushing off the ground to get that speed.

Much of Eastern magic is acausal, concept magic; I wouldn't be surprised if it's more along the lines of "making your spirit lighter" -> less mass, less air resistance, less interaction with the world in general.

At that scale, it's not a mini nuke, but a planetary explosion. :P

    Ahhhhh!
    Yuyuko-sama!
    An all-too-fatal mistake...!
At this point, Youmu tried to force a turn, though she'd only ever gone straight ahead before.
Making a sudden curve during that hyper acceleration, Youmu's light body readily lost traction...
    The energy from her motion...
...was the equivalent of a mini nuclear warhead!
