Know how "Gold" is "Ethan" in English? Thanks to a compounded tag on this pic's Pixiv page, I was granted a revelation: "Ethan" has a Japanese counterpart, "Hibiki". Arceusdammit.

Quite frankly, we should just keep calling him Gold. I see no reason to differentiate the HGSS male protagonist from the GSC male protagonist. The Pokemon names are screwed up enough as it is.

As much as your own thought process none the less.
They never called him gold in the games. He had no official name (no the comic doesn't fucking count). Ethan is currently his official name. Same with Lyra. She didn't replace anyone, they gave the girl a shit redesign. We still call red "red" despite his redesign anyway and (most) people are fine with that. Like most people have been on my ass about Sabrina's new outfit, get over Red and Ethan's changes. Jesus...

"GOLD" is his default name in Gold, with the rival's default name as "SILVER" in that version; incidentally, it's because of HeartGold's default rival name that I call that character/design "Soul". lrn2STARTbutton.
