This. Seems pretty unfair that anime/manga fandom is looked down upon yet other fandoms/obsessions are deemed a-okay.

Pffft. Sports fans (not all, mind you) who are assholes are absolute fucktards. And it's not like only otaku masturbate. Talk about hypocritical. So what if they do it in the privacy of their rooms, I'd only worry if some guy starts masturbating in public.
I'd rather hang out with hardcore otaku. Other than their questionable rooms (do YOU make it a habit to go into peoples' bedrooms?! wtf) they're usually decent - if a little shy - people. Of course there are asshole otaku as well, but even then most of them tend to be the passive-aggressive nonconfrontational types.
