I don't think a guy (or in this case, girl) like Kyon, who finds menial tasks to be tiring and not worth the effort, to be someone with the proper level of spiral energy to pilot Gurren Lagann.
Well actually, having the necessary Maximum energy has nothing to do with being lazy though.
You could be someone that for all intents and purposes was born with a huge amount of magical energy, but just doesnt like to exert any of it as its "work".
And, unless I'm missing something about the arrangement (for lack of a better term) of the cockpit, I'm not so sure that this is the Gurren that she's piloting. I mean, unless the fact that Boota is here is somehow enough to prove that it's the Gurren.

Agreed though maybe the artist just sucks at drawing cockpits. I've seen really good characters with horribly drawn innanimate objects sometimes. The worst offender is usually person + gun.
Okay, so I might have been a little bit off, but all the same, I'd feel safer with Nagato piloting that thing. As if she needed a mecha in the first place.

Check out the circle behind Kyonko's head. That's probably where Lagann's drill is supposed to be when Gurren and Lagann combine.
I looked back at a few episodes, and the cockpit checks out, but the perspective of the seat and then that in relation to the rest of the cockpit are off, but I definitely think it's Gurren.
