Not so much fanon, as half youkais in literature/popular media have longer lifespans in general. Meaning, to use a roundabout example, Inuyasha's "ultimate ending" is doomed to be a depressing one (past the actual ending of the series of course).

From a certain point of view perhaps, but then if we used this logic every story ever made has depressing since "at the end everyone dies". I can certainly think of more depressing things then a long happy romance that ends when one of the partners dies after having a long full life.
