but I guess some people just need that kind of ego boost. I, for my part, hate these kind of dominating and pushy protagonists.
Either it's that kind of plot or it's a rape doujin with random males involved.

Don't get me wrong, it's all good for fapping purposes and stuff, but it's pretty much redundant in doujins with actual plot since mutual relationships between the touhou girls are just much...cuter and more believable. It just doesn't feel natural for there to be males between them.

I'm an avid yuri and futanari fanboy so my opinion is obviously biased. Don't hurt me. ;)
But most of the touhou fandom seems to have a similar stance, so I'm relieved.

Biased indeed ^^. To be frank, I don't find them cute or believable anymore, not after seeing too many of them (biased). Besides, men like yuri because they're perverts. Then they like worksafe ones to make them look less like a pervert. If not, I don't think they will like stuff originally created for real life lesbians.

Because you're biased and close minded, which you basically admit yourself. Seriously there's no logical reason for that reaction and the "oh well males are always sue" reasoning is pretty weak too, you could easily level that hammer at any number of random female OCs that appear in yuri fanfic to sweep some character off there feet.

Acutally I find it unlikley even a notable fraction are as most of the Yuri is, frankly, total fanon based on often very weak associations or infrences. Take the Alice/Marisa ship which fanon has bastardized to the point Alice is commonly portrayed as a clingy psycho utterly obsessed with raping Marisa, which doesn't even vaguely resemble the actual character in the game anymore. Or the Koa/Patchy stuff which when the creator of the game basically said outright that fanon portrayals were totally wrong was ignored.

So I personally laugh when people get all tied in knots about Touhou veering away from yuri, given that it wasn't yuri to start with, but only became that via fanon which often had to badly twist the characters to even make it seem workable.

You're probably right. I was overreacting.

No, he said an old man would be weird, or something along those lines. But that he considered it shows that he’s thought about where men fit in Gensokyo and doesn’t believe in the fanon.

The only reason you or anyone believes Gensokyo is filled with idealized maidens who eat carpet or that males don't fit is because they're all we've seen, for the most part.

However, everyone else knows men exist, if not in the games, then in backstory, mentioned in passing, other locations like the Human Village, Word of ZUN, or elsewhere. They’re around and are in greater numbers than fanon depicts.

So even if the franchise as a whole and games skew that way, Gensokyo isn't really "filled with them". The bottom line is the notion that Gensokyo women are all lesbian simply goes against the odds and is also slightly demeaning IMO. The chances that they are simply is not there.

Not only that, but there's more canon support for Reimu being heterosexual than not. The Watatsukis are or were married. Unless Sanae's ancestor was a virgin birth, there was a man involved there. What's more, ZUN acknowledges that many of the girls have boyfriends, who simply have nothing to do with the story and are thus not mentioned, while also acknowledging the possibility of other characters eventually becoming involved in relationships. Which is the same as it would be with any population segment, really.

Your side of the argument is not that compelling either. ZUN never provided a canon evidence regarding any pairing ever, and we like it that way.

What I don't like is the whole pairing homo vs hetero war gay going on whenever a male comes into the picture. It have spoiled the Nanoha fandom for me beyond all hopes to enjoy it again, I don't want it in Touhou.

Regarding males, especially OCs, I don't like Gary Stus in my touhou either, I am sitting nearly every days with dorks bringing up harem fantasies and this is disheartening; but this kind of kneejerk reaction against the mere appearance of a male, I don't approve it. If I ever do a male OC in Touhou, I'd take the humorous and comedic route, Monkey Island and Space Quest style. Because I love my characters being flawed and average. And guys who flips like ninjas over Yuuka, land a kiss and save a kitten with a confident smile, no thank you.

While this can surely work I've never been a fan of the idea that any OC must be some sort of giant pussy inferior in all meaningful ways to canon characters. What's the point of having original characters if you're going to massively marginalize them into a weakling anyway?

Now at the same time they shouldn't be some god-mode monster that can utterly pwn the strongest entities in a given setting, but them having some level of power and even being more competent in some areas is hardly some mark of instant fail IMO. As with any part of a story or plot execution is often what really matters not the concept itself, an awesome concept can be destroyed by bad execution and a seemingly bad one elevated by an inspired execution.

Also Touhou of all places has very little room to be raging on OC since it has a number of fanon characters who are, effectively, OC stand ins. They had no history and no real character and were and are at the whim of various writers as to how they act or even look.

I am not thinking of a wuss like Keitaro Urashima. I don't like him. Who I think of are the likes of Guybrush Threepwood or Roger Wilco or, in more recent memories, Kyon. And yes, this even includes bullshitting his way out of sticky situations thanks to trivial knowledge a la Slumdog Millionaire or "I watched the McGyver episode where...", and fencing duels with pirate insults as the bulk of the fights. Why pirate insults? Well, why the hell not?

The thing about this kind of protagonist is, as the guys in Cromartie Highschool, he would be like a rabbit in the middle of a den of lions.

Of course, the concept is not that easy to work with, because well, comedy and execution are hard. *shrugs*

Ah, thanks for the info Youmoe. Didn't know about that detail. Then again, I'm familiar with the Greek gods (and eveybody knows the way THAT bunch of basket cases were) so when I heard Sanae was the descendant of Suwako, I kind of assumed that it was the same cases here.

Then again...don't the goddesses have tangible forms in the games (don't see how we'd be able to hit them otherwise)? Of course, this IS Gensokyo we're talking about here...which might be all we need to explain things.

If that were the case, Sanae would be considered Kanako's descendant, not Suwako.

Even though a Kanji changed in her name, Suwako remained the one to channel the faith of the people. Kanako literally leeched of the faith Suwako gathered. She was only the one who decided on matters and Suwako as the god in charge went along with her demands.

Aya canonically also wondered why they are both constantly showing human forms.
My guess is that unlike in the real world where the fear of being cursed by Mishaguji is enough to gather faith, in Gensokyo it's simply not enough. It's populated by so many outstanding individuals that you need to arouse more attention to get the word spread. I doubt they would be able to impress anyone with curse gods in a phantasmal world where people throw with suns and meteors.
