It's mostly because of said portrayal. We, as the fandom of Samus Aran, always saw her as the badass woman with the gun, that would accept the jobs that interested her, wouldn't stand being ordered around (or in the case if she did, she would be seriously pissed off about it) and would actually crush aliens as a standard.

Instead, we got the Samus that needs Adam's opinion to do anything. Is afraid - I repeat - AFRAID of fighting aliens and is desperately insecure about herself.

And that was a kick in the nuts.

Frankly I like the new upgrade system, it's a nice break from "between every game samus loses ALL her upgrades and has to find them again"

Oh yeah, hated her voice and the repetitive, overly obvious monologging. Otherwise, amazing game.
