One thing I wondered for a while is how did Shanghai get the blue coloration and Hourai get the red werent they the oposite colors at one point in the games? Eh must of switched or something.

Anyway subject of the matter, this is just to damn cute. She doesnt need word to tell anyone either.

At the very beginning, there was no difference at all. So fans had to make a difference up. The fact that Shanghai and Horai are "Character"s is fanon in itself as well. The closest thing to canon info we actually have is that the names "Shanghai" and "Horai" are actually just terms to a class of doll rather than 2 dolls Alice disignated as "Special" and "More powerful". And even then, that info is very debatable as well.

I thought it was a dark coloration of blue and red with the games and looking at the touhou wiki didnt help me one day. thats what confused me since they went into detail about shanghai on her page while horai had barly anything except a picture and some small details lol. That site and the games is what made me beleive that fans switched there colors around. Other then that I know there just dolls Alice uses for her attack and fans just developed more characteristics and personalities for them.

Shanghai has just been "around" longer than Horai is all. Thats the only reason why she has more concrete data than Horai. Another thing to note is that the Touhou wiki will always try to use the fighting game pics over little sprites or non-colored manga pics if avaialable.

Good point, fighting game pics look great so I don't blame them for using them. Touhou games need to bring some characters back so there can be a better understanding of them like Koa. Ever see her page, she only has an in game sprite since she never had official art done for her let alone more then 1 single fight in the series. Doesn't stop the huge fanbase from creating everything she needs to be a full character. Little is known about to many characters in this series, at least the fanon works fill the voids.

Also her shot type in IN was called "Shanghai Doll", I think that's the root of there being a special doll.
