Holy mother- Ok... And here I though Azur Lane reached the "lewd cap" a while ago. This genuinly got me by surprise. But still, love that she keeps getting skins.

Her first L2D skin is the most over the top, I'm convinced someone spiked her tea.

It all may be the closest thing to real serious lewdness we've gotten from Illustrious for sure!
So even azur lane is slowly trying to please the demographic that wants men in an all female game...
I mean these games are typically built with sort of the implication from the start the player character is effectively the only male surrounded by women.

At least one character (Nevada) uses male terms to refer to the player character in the original Japanese text and voice lines, and she was in the game at launch. Numerous characters, especially more recently, use innuendo and gestures that only make sense if the Commander is male.
And, as GreyOmega said, these games are almost universally intended to primarily appeal to a male demographic. That's why it's filled with attractive, scantily clad women.
Same thing as with moving away from the core audience to appeal to wider audience, alienating part of the existing player base. It wouldn't have been an issue if that was their approach from the beginning rather than superficially pretending that the pov character is whatever you want them to be.

So you have issues with, no offense intended, how many official skins portray/imply the main character as a man rather than a person of ambiguous gender? Did I get that right?

I haven't paid attention to the game in four years, I don't have an issue. I merely answered your question because it applies to more than just AL.
