It's deceptively simple really. Yes, both rasenkiryuu and ao usagi specialize in the bizarre but the trick is both are very good at remaining bound by whatever logic does pass for their series. Black may ripple and undulate in strange little ways but it doesn't suddenly become white. The result is that it seems strange but still makes sense somehow.
