Well, I did some random goggling, and found out his name by accident.

And yes, he's based of the same character from Yuyu-Hakasho.

I doubt he's based the Yu Yu Hakusho so much as they draw from the same myths.

Same with the four-tails and Son Goku.

And while lurking around the forums, I found a lot of people bitching about how unoriginal Son's name was, saying it was stolen from DBZ and stuff. I can't help but facepalming as I scroll through the pages. It was... a thoughtful experience, yes.

I know. But apparently most fans didn't know about the legend, and associate it with DBZ instead, hence the aforementioned facepalming.
