Worst I can think of is he's lost someone in the disaster. It might not be that bad, though.
Even though he can't read this, I hope nothing horrible's happened to him.

That's the same thing I feel, for five months in my life I've been in Japan and have some friends in there, I wish all of them are alright, also there is a relative of mine is living in Japan, but in Osaka.

I think its out of respect of those lost, or something. Artists are nothing if not lovers of symbolism.
