If the games are starting to be like this, I might even start playing again, last game I played was Red version on my B&W (well, more like B&green) gameboy

Actually, B&W has some parts that feel a bit more mature. Or at least surprisingly depressing for a childrens game. NPCs ask you if they will ever get used to their monotonous and depressing lives, your rivals question why they want to be the very best (like no one ever was) and there's quite a lot of innuendo that just has to be intentional.

Not saying it's Pokémon Grimdark/Teen Angst, which it fortunately isn't. But it's slightly less happy-go-lucky.

The Yellow arc in the Pokemon Special Manga diffenetly started getting serious without going the whole "dark and emo" thing. As long as the games dont overdue the dark aspects, then it can only get better for older audiences.

But... then again...

Seriously fromm all of Nintendo Franchises, Pokemon have the most potential of all to be developed
mainly because the size of the verse and not centralled at one character.
