Yeah, I noticed that too. The artwork is stunning, there's just something offputting about the faces in a couple of his works. Too realistic perhaps?
In any case, his new stuff doesn't seem to have the same issue with faces.
Another reason for the lack of popularity might be just because it's original artwork. The Pixiv crowd tends to gravitate toward Touhou/anime artwork, so original work like this gets less attention.
