Gradius isn't a danmaku series, so having a small hitbox would make the game too easy. However, I do agree that the arcade version of Gradius III would be a lot more enjoyable if it had a smaller hitbox...

On the side note, Gradius V has a small hitbox.

Indeed, though Treasure worked in some modern shmup aspects to the series, though I think they upped the bullet count some.
