Let's see, game boss and main character vs stage one mid-boss and stage 1 boss. I'm not even going to bring in characteristics and powers... I mean, I know you want an even fight for entertainment, but some things NEED to be one sided.

Stage number isn't exactly the best way of determining a character's strength; Yuugi is probably the best example, being just a stage 3 boss. There's also Yuyuko in Ten Desires, arguably Satori/Rin, Reimu/Reisen (IN), and possibly some others I can't tink of offhand. Granted, two of those examples come from two rather close-together stages, but still, it's not a hard-and-fast rule that later stage bosses will be stronger than previous ones. Harder from a gameplay perspective, perhaps, but not stronger.
...though admittedly, this match is fairly unbalanced. Depending on the characterization, though, it's still possible that the stronger team will let down their guard exactly because of that, and someone manages to pull some sneaky trick or another.
Intresting Yuyuko is heavily power based but hand-to-hand combat is lacking if I remember correctly. I think I'm starting to see why these matches were seleced like this.
