Whoa, that scared the crap out of me for a second. I thought Zun was selling out until I saw it was only fan games.
I still don't like it. One of touhou's main charms is the freedom it has from it's indy background. Modern video game publishers do horrible things to video games and I'm horrified at the thought of them getting their claws into Zun's stuff.

One of the things that the PS4 and Steam promotes is the rise of the indy gaming industry making it easier for the indy works to come out. Though it still is expensive for developers to get on consoles though.

It streamlines it way too much and lets anyone get into the spotlight, whether the game is any good or not. It encourages greed and low effort games.

It takes the "independent" out of indie games.
I'm not argueing that but the fact remains even though it is easier it is still expensive to get on consoles regardless of effort. So if the low effort does make it to consoles it just means that there is someone with way to much time and money. ZUN probably won't do it himself because he doesn't want anyone else say that his work is not his. Indie fan games does get more people interested in the franchise so think it more as an advertisement and people getting their names out as future game developers.
