I know that Mara Jade is Luke Skywalker's wife in the extended-universe, and she's the mother of his kids, but I've never read those novels. Still, her story sounds way more interesting than what we got with the sequel trilogy. Her being a reformed Assassin gives her an actual arc, and a unique place in the lore. I really fucking hated the sequel trilogy. It was totally incoherent. This might be fresh coming from me, but I consider the sequel trilogy to be pornography. Did it have a story? No, it just had sex-scenes with light-sabers and X-wings. Did it have characters? Not really, it just had roles like "White Girl" and "Black Guy."
