This artist's Reisen and Youmu are amazing.

For all of Reisen's epicness, though, she still seems to lose all the time.

That seems to happen to a lot of gun-based characters, actually. Under more regular circumstances, they could beat anyone anyday, but in a fantasy setting, they tend to get beat out by swordsmen, speedsters, etc.

Range is one of the biggest advantage of guns. Almost insignificant in such one-to-one combat, they would be quadratically better in many-to-many fights.

This has got to be a pattern. Every one of Reisen's defeats is traded with one single pantyshot.

Under more regular circumstances gun users would only face people who CAN die, i.e. anyone not written by imizu.

Dancing between bullets and defeating your nemesis in a super-complicated choreographic exercise followed by an emotional dying scene tends to entertain more people than hitting the bad guy from 200 yards away and having your victorious speech over a bleeding and writhing body interrupted only by the death rattle. Don't ask me why.

Quoted for truth. Grab any fighting anime and try to imagine the battle sequence happening in real life, without all the cool effects of slow motion, foreshortening, close-up and such super-complicated choreographic exercise. It quickly becomes hilarious.

But at least guns make cool sounds and hot graphics and do make good action equipments on-screen sometimes. I'm yet to see any visual media where bows and arrows (normal ones, mind you, not the ones that fire fantasy nukes) are portrayed as awesome.

Anyway, even though I understand hyperbole, it's still beyond me how Youmu survived and continued to fight with dozens of most likely fatal gun wounds, while all it took to knock Reisen out was hitting her with a ghost.

Couldn't help facepalming at that scene when Youmu gets a shower of Reisen's gun but nothing happens except feeling some pain. That must have been the worst treatment to guns I've ever seen even in Japanese media.

I would say it's along the same line as in FF Duodecim when Laguna shot a shitload of bullets and the opponent doesn't die. Granted that's part of the gameplay mechanic, but still..

Reisen might be using rubber bullets or something equivalent to that since Youmu is only bruised, and does not look like swiss cheese. She was obviously using live rounds with Remi.

For all the absurdly detailed drawings, guns and swords here are just special effects for Danmaku, which is non-lethal.

Not sure about this... In the Udonge VS Remilia doujinshi Reisen´s bullets were shown to be VERY lethal.

So I guess, Udonge really used rubber munition here.

Youmu even shot up, cut up, blown up, and in the end still looking cute and sexy all the same lol. So for Myon...suck it up. Float it off. Float if off.

His weapons can hardly be called arrows. They're just assorted weapons attacked to a stick and fired with a bow.

I actually agree with the rubber munition idea. She would use real ammo against the immortal vampire, but for a friendly brawl like this, there's no way she'd use her full force.
Also, it might be that Youmu isn't as affected by physical damage because she's a half spirit.

I'm sticking with the danmaku theory. Yeah, they're real guns, but they were certainly magically summoned, which I figure could put 'em under spellcard rules. M/I Complex ~ "Infinite Armory" if you want a name for it.
