Sketches are also much more suitable for studying if you're interested in drawing yourself.
...though I guess that should be kinda obvious--not to me though, who apparently still thinks artists draw everything at once from some magic pen or what have you.
Sketches have the direct feeling of the artist and the full range impact than the artist intended to achieve in a final version of artwork. sometimes the final loses feeling. u_u
