    ジラ

A kaiju appearing in the 1998 Hollywood film Godzilla created by Sony Pictures.

It was initially labelled as a "Godzilla" within the movie, but was subsequently retconned into simply "Zilla" by Toho Films due too how unfaithful to the original it is compared to the original source material. Particularly being designed a lean and relatively small (for a kaiju standard) lizard-like creature, compared to the established theropod-like kaiju design of the original Godzilla.

It has been a subject of ridicule by Toho and fans to the point that Toho has released a reference to it, considering the monster an entirely different species, as well as including it in a Godzilla anime series only for it to be beaten by the original Godzilla in 13 seconds.
