    彗星

The Yokosuka D4Y Suisei (彗星, "Comet", Allied nickname "Judy") was an Imperial Japanese Navy dive bomber, built to replace the older Aichi D3A Type 99.

While it was designed from the onset as a dive bomber, the first examples flew in the battle of Midway as a reconnaissance craft due to some flaws until it was corrected and cleared for dive bombing. Its high speed also made it valuable as an improvised interceptor with an upward-mounted cannon (post #4449223), but it shared the same fragility as other planes of their time.
