Hamas (Arabic: حركة المقاومة الإسلامية, Ḥarakat al-Muqāwamah al-ʾIslāmiyyah, lit. 'Islamic Resistance Movement'), is a Palestinian Islamist political and paramilitary movement founded on 10 December 1987. The group played a prominent role on guerrilla warfare against the IDF.
Hamas has been accused of political violence and alleged human rights violations, particularly by Israel's allies. Therefore, many countries that have positive relationships with Israel designated Hamas as a terrorist organization.
Hamas personnel are generally recognizable by their head-wrapping keffiyehs and green headbands often inscriped with shahada text based on their party flag.
