Kickboxing is a stand-up combat sports and a form of boxing based on Karate and Muay Thai. The combat takes place in a boxing ring, normally with boxing gloves, mouthguards, shorts, similar with classical boxing sport, albeit the participant is barefoot to favor the use of kicks.
While very similar to Muay Thai, kickboxing can be distinguished by the more "standardized" boxing kits similar to classical boxing and the lack of special Muay Thai techniques that are forbidden in kickboxing rules such as elbow or knee strikes.
