Kantai Collection's personification of the Japanese battleship Nagato, named after Nagato Province (now Yamaguchi Prefecture). Character design by Shizuma Yoshinori, voiced by Sakura Ayane.
Appearance
In-game, Nagato has longblack hair and red eyes. She wears a black and white japanese-style shirt with yellow trimming, blackfingerlesselbow gloves (again with yellow trimming) and a short white pleated skirt with a black stripe along the brim. She also wears a metallic garterbelt which holds in place her black and maroon thighhighs. On her head is her peculiar headgear which features the various details of the top of her main tower.
She later gained her second remodel/kai ni on 22 May 2017. See Nagato Kai Ni for details.
She's also fairly often drawn wearing a light yellow apron with the words "Puka Puka" on them, with a ship surrounded by water ripples in the center. This had its origin in a drawing by Nagato's official artist, Shizuma Yoshinori. This can be seen in post #1510864.
Personality
Often portrayed as cool and professional if a bit prideful, being one (and the first) of the Big 7 battleships allowed to mount 16-inch guns (along with Mutsu). Secretly likes cute things.
She featured in the 2015 anime as one of the major supporting characters, as the admiral's secretary ship. Her personality, originally soft but confident, was changed significantly; becoming strict, authoritative and more than a little gruff. Her voice was also changed, becoming much deeper, harsher and less feminine than it was originally in the game, with more than a slight streak of insecurity. This was possibly done to make her "Nagamon" persona appear as more of a contrast. As her new voice has been used in all of her post-2015 lines, it is considered to be the new standard. Her old personality and voice is retained in the original lines.
History
In real life, she was Yamamoto Isoroku's flagship in the first months of the war (even gave the signal for the Pearl Harbor attack to commence from her bridge). She served as part of BatDiv1 with Yamato and Mutsu in the battle of Midway. After the war, she was used along with Sakawa, Prinz Eugen and Saratoga as a target at Bikini Atoll during Operation Crossroads. She was sunk after the Baker test from a combination of damage sustained on the attack on Yokosuka and the two nuclear tests.
Trivia
There's a joke/meme common on 4chan and in World of Warships that Nagato enjoys anal play. This is *possibly* because the second kanji in her name: 長門 is the same as the second kanji in anus: 肛門. But the real reason is unknown.
