    buchi holes

    ブチ穴 イヅブチ穴

    "Buchi Ana" "Izubuchi Holes"

    ● ● ●
      ● ●

Pattern of five (sometimes more) vent-like holes arranged in a trapezoidal formation in two offset rows, a 'trademark' design element often found on mecha designs by Izubuchi Yutaka. Usually arranged in a pattern of three above and two below (3+2), as shown above. Often found in pairs along the sides of mecha head units, or on the shoulder pauldrons. The AV-98 Ingram features them on both its head (3+2, rotated) and shoulder (3+4) units.

    Notable 'characters'

    • AV-98 Ingram (Kidou Keisatsu Patlabor)
      • Buchi Holes along the sides of its head and shoulder 'pauldrons'.
      • The similarly named AV-98 Ingram Unit 2 does not have these holes.
    • MSM-03C Hygogg (Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket)
      • Buchi Holes along the front of its shoulder 'pauldrons'.
    • MSM-07E Z'Gok-E (Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket)
      • Buchi Holes on upper forearms and 'kneecaps'.
      • The original MSM-07 Z'Gok does not have these holes.
    • RX-77D Guncannon Mass Production Type (Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket)
      • Buchi Holes along the front of its shoulder 'pauldrons'.
      • The original RX-77-2 Guncannon does not have these holes.
    • G-Spring Goddess (The Goddess of the G-Spring)
      • Carries a staff with two floating fins with Buchi Holes on each.
      • Sometimes 'cosplays' as the Hygogg, wearing shoulder pauldrons or 'skirt' flaps with Buchi Holes.

    Tag usage notes

    • Tag buchi_holes when you see a visible pattern of five holes arranged in the pattern noted above.
      • The pattern may be rotated at an angle, such as seen on the Ingram's head unit.
    • Consider tagging buchi_holes when you see a similar pattern of seven or more holes, if they are 'aesthetically' similar to the five-hole version.
      • e.g. The seven hole pattern on the Ingram's shoulder 'pauldrons'.
    • Avoid tagging buchi_holes for patterns with an even number of holes. These often tend to be 'speaker grille' units.
    • Avoid tagging buchi_holes for patterns with 3 or less holes.
    • Avoid tagging buchi_holes for patterns not arranged in two rows, i.e. all in one row or in three or more rows.
    • If you encounter a pattern of holes that you feel fits the general 'aesthetics' of Buchi Holes, you may disregard all the above "avoid" clauses and tag them buchi_holes anyway. But please be 'conservative' in this regard.
