gm (mobile suit)

ジム(MS) RGM-79 ジム(機動戦士ガンダム) GM(機動戦士ガンダム) ジムシリーズ ジム(THE・ORIGIN) ジム(サンダーボルト) (凸) ジムの日

A mobile suit that first appeared in Mobile Suit Gundam (1979).

The GM (Gundam Mass Production), also referred simply as the Jim, is an Earth Federation mass production all-environment, generic, multi-role combat mobile suit based off the design and data obtained from the learning computer of the RX-78-2 Gundam more advanced prototype.

It is far less powerful and durable than the original Gundam due to heavily simplified and low-grade parts, but much cheaper to mass produce and easier to maintain, modify and repair. Due to its generally average to low performance (even being often depicted as a "cannon fodder" of some sort within the series), it spawned several variants, each with an attempt to make the mobile suit on-par with the more modern Gundams and whatever they were pitted against.

In real life, it was designed by Ookawara Kunio in the late 1970s, and was inspired by the M4 Sherman and T-34 tanks of World War II. The mecha was also called the Jimmy in the Genshiken anime comedy series.
