historical american flag

American flag designs no longer in use, particularly with thirteen stars arranged circularly.

As new states are incorporated into the US, a star is customarily added to the flag. The last time in which this was done was in July 1960 with the admittance of Hawaii to the US, and the number of stars on the flag was incremented to 50. From its adoption to the present day, the 50-star version has been used for over 50 years of continuous use, while the 48-star version held for over 47 years from 1912 until 1959. Intentional representations in anime media and illustrations of lower-than-50 stars are not likely to be found, although perhaps could be for those set in the period of the world wars, but there are other historical and colonial US flags, to be seen in the see also section.
